The Committee

about

In order to preserve ALL of the military monuments in our area, a group of veterans, business leaders and elected officials joined hands to create the Berks County Monument Preservation Fund.

Time has taken its toll on the stone and bronze that make up the noble memorial structures dedicated to past and current Veterans. Many of the monuments in our area are showing their age or have been vandalized so badly that their very existence is being threatened. Annual maintenance is required of every memorial so that they may continue to stand as a reminder to future generations. Monuments though, remain the property of those individuals or organizations who erected them. In most cases, the groups who funded the erection of the monument are no longer in existence or are unable to handle the annual upkeep.

The committee has adopted monuments throughout the County and coordinates perpetual care so that our military Veterans and deceased members will never be forgotten. With over 100 memorials in the County needing care plans put in place plus over $20,000 needed in immediate repairs at City Park to preserve damaged memorials, the time is now to donate and help our mission.

The “Freedom Path”

All bricks that are purchased make up the new “Freedom Path” which links all the memorials, including the Vietnam memorial area located in City Park, Reading.
